Mortal Kombat is weeks away from retail, but NetherRealm Studios has already spilled the beans on the studio's plans to a release a pair of familiar MK faces as DLC shortly after the reboot's launch in April. Producer Hans Lo recently told CVG fans can expect to see Kenshi and Skarlett added to the mix as post-launch content, explaining,'They won't be copy and pasted from characters already in the game - they're going to have their own unique fighting styles, moves, fatalities and x-rays - all the good stuff.' At time of print, the interview has mysteriously dissappeared from CVG's front page, butnews of the character additionswere glimpsed in last week's scans from Gamepro's. As MK devotees may recall, Skarlett (aka Lady in Red), was the name given by players to the red version of the Jade/Katana/Milena character who was born as a result of a bug in Mortal Kombat II, and not (as some suspected) a result of lazy design. 'People always thought it was a hidden unlockable character and it wasn't, it was purely a programming glitch,” noted Lo. “They've always speculated and in fact it was the fans who named her Skarlett to begin with. She's no longer a glitch - she's an actual character, and she'll be coming pretty soon post-launch.'

Kenshi, however, is an intentional character who first appeared in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance as a fighter who was blinded by Shang Tsung, and has been seeking revenge since. Gamepro's scans also revealMortal Kombat II'ssub-boss Kinataro willbe available as DLC down the road; a brutal, bloody, gut-splattering road which begins with Mortal Kombat's release in North America on April 19th, and in the UK on April 21st. Details are scarce at the moment, but we recently learned that the announcement trailer may be more telling than we initially expected as that fans are going to be 'shocked how accurate' the trailer is to the actual gameplay. This means we might be able to expect mechanics such as bone breaking, stage interactables, and more. One detail that Warner Bros. Seemed to casually slip in with the Mortal Kombat 11 announcement press release is the fact that the game will be seeing the release of a Kombat Pack. Essentially, it seems that DLC characters have already been confirmed to join the game and should be released similarly to what we've seen in past NRS games — though we obviously do not know the identities of these characters just yet. In the press release, it is noted that the Mortal Kombat 11 Premium Edition will be available for purchase for $99.99.

Grabbing this purchase option — which is already available for pre-order — will include 'the base game and the Kombat Pack.' NetherRealm's previous major fighting title, Injustice 2, saw an Ultimate Edition at launch that ran for the same price as Mortal Kombat 11's Premium Edition. With it, players were given access to the game's nine DLC characters as they were released, as well as bonus character Darkseid, a handful of premium costumes, and two special shaders (colors) to be used with your favorite heroes and villains. Mortal Kombat 11 could be gearing up for a similar style DLC release, considering we already know that Shao Kahn is set to be a bonus character in the game for those who pre-order it — much like Darkseid was in Injustice 2.

Injustice 2's DLC characters were released in 'Fighter Packs' that included three additional combatants per pack release. There were a total of three Fighter Packs, with a total of 10 characters added post-launch (if you include Darkseid). Mortal Kombat X also saw the release of Kombat Packs for its DLC, though the structure was a bit different than Injustice 2's. For MKX, there were two Kombat Packs that added nine characters total: four in the first Kombat Pack and five in the second (counting bonus character Goro). Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees, Tanya, Predator, and Tremor all joined Mortal Kombat X in Kombat Pack #1. In Kombat Pack #2 came Alien, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre's Leatherface, Triborg, and Bo' Rai Cho, with Goro also being included although he was originally a pre-order bonus like Darkseid in Injustice 2 and Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat 11. What this all tells us is that NetherRealm is likely sticking to a similar release format for their DLC in Mortal Kombat 11, considering we already know of the existence of a Kombat Pack for the game.

We could be seeing as many as nine DLC fighter join the roster, if the last two NRS games are any indicator. Another important detail about MK11 that may have slipped through the cracks for some is the fact that the game will be seeing a beta test before launch. The test is set to take place sometime in March, and those who pre-order the game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One from select retailers will gain access to it. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros.
